Transporting Wood by Floating it on a Brook

Description: Barked pulpwood floating down a stream in spring in the Green River area. Drive started as soon as the water level in streams was high and would last about fifteen days. That is what workers called the " Grand Drive ". During those two weeks, wood was thrown in the streams and followed the current. Drivers guided the logs and released log jams. All wood cut during winter was transported that way before the water level in streams or rivers went down.
