Description: Jumping from one log to the next, these five drivers are releasing logs from a pile-up using pike poles and peavies. The drive began as soon as the water level in the stream was high in the spring and it would last a fortnight. This is what loggers called "La grande drave". During those two weeks, logs were thrown in the streams and carried away by the current. Drivers guided logs and released them from pile-ups. All the timber cut during winter was transported this way before the water flow in the brook and rivers dwindled.
