The Kedwick Fraser Sawmill in 1970

Description: The Kedgwick Fraser sawmill officially opened in 1970. It closed in the early 1990s. Contruction stud lumber measuring 2"X4" and 2"X6" was produced there. Logs were debarked and cut in the Sawmill, located near the Incinerators. The Sorting Shed is at the end of the Sawmill. After being cut, lumber was sorted by size and quality. The circular building at right is the waste incinerator, where left-over bark was burned. The lumber kiln is the largest building where, once cut, boards were dried. The Storage Shed is located on the left, near the railway. Lumber was then loaded in freight cars. At right, train wagons are loaded with wood chips to be transported to the Edmundston and Atholville Fraser pulp mills. Lumber was also piled outside in lumber yards.
