Description: We see the Kedgwick Fraser sawmill after 1977. This sawmill was officially opened in 1970. It closed in the early 1990s. Construction stud lumber, that is 2"x4" and 2"x6", was produced there. Logs were debarked and cut in the sawmill located near the Waste Incinerators. The sorting and stocking shed is located at the end of the mill. Once cut, lumber was sorted by length and quality. The two circular buildings near the sawmill are the waste incinerators, where waste (mostly bark) was burned. There are three lumber kilns; the larger building and two smaller buildings, located near the larger lumber yard. Once timber was cut into construction stud lumber, it was dried. The planing mill is near the railroad. Lumber was planed there and made smooth and uniform. Lumber was sorted and loaded into the freight cars. On the right, railway cars are loaded with wood chips to be transported to the Edmundston and Atholville Fraser pulp mills. Wood was also stacked in the lumber yards.
