The Kedgwick Fraser Sawmill

Description: Bird's-eye view of the (Kedgwick) Fraser sawmill after 1970. The sawmill was officially opened in 1970. It would close in 1990. Construction lumber was produced here in the form of boards measuring 2"x4" ad 2"x6". Logs would be debarked and cut in the sawmill located near the waste incinerators. Boards were sorted by size and quality at the storage shed at the end of the mill. The two circular structures at the left of the sawmill are the waste incinerators. Unusable waste (mainly bark) was burned there. The planer workshop is located near the railroad, where lumber was planed to be made smooth and uniform. Boards were then sorted and loaded on trains. Farther away, other freight cars were loaded with wood chips to be transported to the (Edmundston and Atholville) Fraser pulp mills by train. Sawed lumber was also stacked in lumber yards.
