The (Kedgwick ) Fraser Sawmill in 1970

Description: A bird's-eye view of the Fraser company sawmill in Kedgwick in 1970. The sawmill officially opened in 1970 and then closed in 1990. Construction lumber was transformed to boards measuring 2"x4" and 2"x6". Logs were debarked and cut in the sawmill near the waste incinerators. At the end of the mill, boards were sorted by size and quality. The two cirular structures on the left of the mill are the waste incinerators. Unusable waste (mainly bark) was burned here. The planer workshop is located near the railroad. Boards were planed to be made smooth and uniform. They were then sorted and loaded on trains. Farther away, freight cars are loaded with wood chips to be shipped to the (Edmundston and Atholville) Fraser pulp mills. Lumber was also stacked in lumber yards.
