Description: Press section of new Number 7 paper machine at Fraser Paper Limited in Madawaska, Maine. The press section or “wet-press section” contains several drying felts and suction pick-up (vacuum) rolls, which remove water from the paper mat. The Number 7 paper machine was 234 inches wide and had an operating speed of 2,ooo feet per minute. In the 1960s, this machine was considered to be one of the industry's top paper machine. The average production per day was 175 tons of uncoated fine paper or 155 tons of groundwood directory paper. This picture was taken for the Paper Trade Journal.
