Description: Here is the Fourdrinier wire mesh section of the Number 7 paper machine at the Madawaska Maine Fraser Paper mill. This section of the machine contains a moving belt of mesh fabric. A paper slurry made of pulp fiber, is pumped into a box where it flows out through a slot onto the moving wire belt and becomes evenly spread. Once on the belt, the water is removed by draining and suction, leaving the fibers to form a very wet, and weak paper. The paper is then pressed, heated, dried, resulting in a continuous roll or “web” of paper which can be further finished as desired or required.
